Google Friend Connect is a service provided by Google that lets people connect with friends on different websites.
It is an open social application that started in May of 08. It simplifies the connection between social and non-social websites and to simplify applications and content. It allows users of any service such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, AIM, etc. to login and have access to Google Connect’s services. Basically, it turns your blog into a social network where fans can interact with one another.
This application is free, but the website using it must approve the use of Google Connect. It does not require prior knowledge of web programming, and allows any website to offer social applications from other sites such as Myspace, Google Talk, Netlog, and other social network sites.
Google came out with a new feature in May of 09 called “Comment Translation” which translates any comment left in any language to English (or the desired language).
Some helpful and fun features are:
- ClackPoint: Gives live text chat, audio, and vodeo for your network. Visitors can call directly from the web page or by entering a pin from a phone.
- Ratings and Reviews: Allows your site visitors to review articles, photos, books, etc.
- Recommendation: Allow users to recommend pages they like. Your most talked about content will rise to the top of the list!
- Event: Post upcoming events for your business and community
